The author, Alison McGhee, is a poet and children’s book writer who has also written Where We Are and World So Wide. The illustrator, Sean Qualls, is a collage artist who creates whimsical and expressive images.
The book follows the adventures of various pairs of babies and their caregivers, who share their love and laughter in different settings. The rhyme scheme is simple and catchy, with words like “wiggle”, “woggle”, “swing”, and “zing”. The illustrations are vibrant and playful, featuring characters with different skin tones, hair textures, and facial features. The book also includes a note from the author that explains the meaning of the title: “Baby Be” is a way of saying that every baby is unique and beautiful just the way they are.
For this #MelAndNikkiReview, we give this book 5 stars out of 5! A lovely tribute to the bond between parents and children, regardless of their appearance or identity. It also encourages children to embrace their own individuality and express themselves creatively.
