Synopsis

Rosie Posie is a happy and confident kid, but there are times when her self-esteem gets rattled…like when she begins to notice changes in the way her body looks in the mirror. Rosie’s mother helps by teaching her more about her body, eating, and celebrating her unique self. In doing so, she communicates a very important message that sticks with Rosie throughout her life: “You are so loved just as you are; no one’s more special, near or far.”

#MelAndNikkiReview

Just As You Are is a fantastic children’s book that brings up important topics such as body image, peer pressure and self-love. The rhyming style is our favourite types of books and is a great way to have children engage in the concepts being brought forward. It also helps us remember what we read too!

This book would be a great addition to health class in schools and one that can be even read in Kindergarten. Personally I would have read this book to Nikki when she was four years old. That was the year when she came to me to ask me if she was fat as a child from her class was making fun of her weight. It is never too early to have these discussions with children.

Just As You Are will open the lines of communication to have these conversations that will help shape a positive mindset on loving yourself the way you are. We love books that offer positive engagement. After we read this book we talked about the importance of loving ourselves and to embrace our unique looks as there is only one us.

I loved this book because it tells you that you are beautiful the way you are. No matter your shape or your size, we were all made differently. That is an important message for all kids! – Nikki, Age 7

For this #MelAndNikki review we give this book 5 stars out of 5! We love how this story can be relatable to anyone. The topics of body image, peer pressure and self-love is explained in a way children can understand. This is why we feel this would be a great tool to help children build a healthier mindset on themselves. Great way to start any dialogue is through a story and Alyssa does exactly that with Just As You Are.
