Isn’t the world a noisy place?
But what if you stop, close your eyes, and LISTEN? Can you hear each sound? Can you listen past the noise and hear the quiet, too?
#MelAndNikkiReview
Listen is a great children’s book that truly let’s us listen. A beautiful picture book that follows a girl through her school day as she listens to sounds across the city: caws of crows, shouts across the playground, and finally, the quiet beating of her heart and whispered good nights.
Every night for the last couple of weeks, this has been our go to book. At the end of the story, we take some time to reflect back on our day and close our eyes. As we close our eyes we think back to all the sounds that we have heard through the day and we share it with one another. Nikki loves doing this activity and it helps us meditate on our day.
Sometimes I love to just listen to the sounds around me. It feels magical. – Nikki, Age 6
For this #MelAndNikkiReview we give this book 5 chirps out of 5! A beautiful story and illustrations. We love the informative bonus at the back of the book about the sensory science behind hearing. This book is perfect for parents and educators to encourage quiet time and mindfulness.
