Celebrating Portuguese flair through laughter and heart, Porkchops & Comedy is back to bring the house down—one punchline at a time.
On September 19, Mississauga will play host to an unforgettable night of wit, cultural pride, and crowd-cracking comedy as Porkchops & Comedy makes its return. This one-of-a-kind event blends the rhythms of Portuguese heritage with the universal language of laughter, promising a diverse line-up of performers, surprise openers, and an experience that’s as hearty and comforting as a classic Portuguese dish.
In order to get the in-depth exclusive we interviewed the creators, Jonathan of Luso Funny and Ben Fate of Comedy Portuguese to bring all the juicy details to you!

The Origin of Porkchops & Comedy
Founded out of pure love for comedy and cultural storytelling, the idea for Porkchops & Comedy was sparked by a lifelong appreciation for humour—rooted in childhood memories and early work with Portuguese youth. When Jonathan and Ben Fate joined forces, the vision became clear: bring Portuguese comedians to the forefront and create a stage that celebrates community and comedy hand-in-hand.

Building a Comedy Cast, One Laugh at a Time
The cast of Porkchops & Comedy started with familiar faces like Joe Botelho and Emanuel, who have graced every edition of the show. From there, the team scoured Instagram, discovering talents like Brian Couto—who in turn introduced even more rising stars. Organic connections, open mics, and a welcome attitude have allowed the lineup to grow into a dynamic mix, with surprise openers frequently lighting up the crowd for five-minute sets of fresh energy.

More Than a Show—A Must-Attend Experience
What makes this event stand out? It’s not just the comedy—it’s the community. While not every act is performed in Portuguese, the lineup features an abundance of Portuguese-Canadian voices, many of whom may be unknown to mainstream audiences. For true fans of comedy and lovers of Portuguese culture, this evening is more than a show—it’s a celebration.

Bridging Cultures with Bilingual Humor
Balancing tradition with accessibility is no easy feat, but Porkchops & Comedy does it effortlessly. In today’s multicultural world—where Portuguese families are often part of international unions—the show stays true to its heritage while making the culture understandable to English-speaking audiences. It’s a bilingual bridge built on laughter and storytelling.

Keeping Things Fresh and Flavorful
No two shows are the same. From switching venues to constantly rotating the lineup, Porkchops & Comedy keeps audiences on their toes. With new acts, returning favourites, and an ever-evolving energy, each performance brings something unexpected—and unforgettable.

The September 19th event will be hosted by Steve from Da Podcast and served with a side of Portuguese humour by Ben Fate of Comedy Portuguese. The listed line up to date will feature: Brian Couto, Jess Goddard, Joe Botelho, Jeff E, Steve Melo, Emanuel Melo, Mike Luis and Manny Miranda. Let us not forget that after the comedy show, dancing will follow by the amazing DJ GoodVibes (we have seen him live and he is awesome)!
Championing Portuguese-Canadian Identity
More than entertainment, the event plays an important role in elevating Portuguese-Canadian voices, offering a platform to artists whose work reflects the pride, quirks, and nuances of their community. It’s about connection, visibility, and inspiring the next generation of creators.
We got to ask a fun question to one of the event organizers to really complete this exclusive event interview! We asked, if Porkchops & Comedy were a Portuguese Dish, what would it be?
“It would be Bife à Casa. Not the most expensive dish on the menu, but rich in flavour and joy. Think of the show as the steak—the main course of the night—surrounded by layers that make the experience complete: eggs, sauce, fries, hot peppers, and olives. Each detail adds spice, depth, and personality. That is exactly what you can expect from the Porkchops & Comedy Event.” – Jonathan from Luso Funny
