Hug Me | Book Review

Imagine love giving hugs but you had no one to give it to! That is exactly what happens to Felipe who is the star of this adorable children’s book, Hug Me. This book is written and illustrated by Simona Ciraolo in her debut picture book.

Synopsis

Ever feel like you need a hug, a really big hug from someone?

That’s how Felipe the young cactus feels, but his family just isn’t the touchy-feely kind. Cacti can be quite prickly sometimes, you know…and so can Felipe. But he’ll be darned if this one pointy issue will hold him back, so one day Felipe sets off on his own to find a friend and, just maybe, that long awaited hug.

#MelAndNikkiReview

This book is absolutely perfect for my daughter who loves to hug! As we read the adorable storyline she would look up to me and say, “I know how Felipe feels as I love to hug too.” At school they teach the children to keep their hands to themselves as everyone needs to respect each others’ personal space. Therefore, I had to keep reminding Nikki that there is no hugging in school in case someone in the class didn’t like it. Her response back was, “But mom I’m a HUGGER!”

Hug Me definitely connected with Nikki and she truly enjoyed it from beginning to end. Nikki’s favorite part was that Felipe ended up finding the perfect person for his prickly hugs. That is exactly how it is in life when we find that friend who accepts us for who we are (prickles and all). We just adored the story and brought out the hugger out of Nikki as she demonstrates to me and her dad how good she is at hugging. 🙂

The illustrations compliment the book as it is beautifully drawn and of course the storyline is absolutely adorable!

Therefore, for this #MelAndNikkiReview, we give Hug Me 5 cactuses out of 5! We recommend this book for ages three to five and it is a perfect read for bedtime.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, this would be a perfect book for a child. If you would like to purchase a copy, click here.
