Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh waffles in the morning? Today, we’ll dive into a unique guide on making perfect homemade waffles that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Since today is Pancake Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday), you can make waffles too as our recipe is actually a pancake recipe!
To make our waffle experience easy, we use the Ninja Neverstick 5-Shade Setting Waffle Maker. Ready? Let’s waffle!
The Perfect Batter
First, let’s talk batter. The secret to a delicious waffle starts here. You’ll need:
– 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
– 1 tablespoon of sugar
– 3 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
– 1/4 teaspoon of salt
– 1 1/4 cups of water
– 3 tablespoons of melted butter
– 1 egg
– Optional: 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Directions
1. Preheat your Ninja Neverstick 5-Shade Setting Waffle Maker: Plug it in and let it warm up while you prepare the batter. We use the 5 setting. Usually, what works to ensure that the batter does not spill out of the Ninja (since it is a standing one), we let it heat up for the first round. Once it beeps, we open up the maker to cool for a little bit. Then we turn it on again to start using it. Always refer to the equipment booklet for best results.
2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
3. Whisk the wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the water, and melted butter. Stir until well combined. *Vanilla extract can be added at this stage.
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—lumps are okay!
Customizing Your Waffles
One of the joys of making homemade waffles is customizing them to your taste. Here are some add-ins to consider:
Chocolate Chip Waffles
Add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
Blueberry Waffles
Fold in 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries.
Nutty Waffles
Mix in 1/2 cup of chopped nuts, like pecans or walnuts.
Cooking with the Ninja Neverstick 5-Shade Setting Waffle Maker
Now that your batter is ready, it’s time to cook those waffles.
1. Pick the setting first, we usually pick the number 5 as we like it golden. The light will turn red which means it is ready to be used.
2. Pour the batter: Pour about 1/2 cup of batter (or the amount recommended by the Ninja Neverstick 5-Shade Setting Waffle Maker’s instructions) to the top of the waffle maker (make sure it is closed before doing so.
3. The Ninja Neverstick 5-Shade Setting Waffle Maker usually only takes a couple of minutes to be done, you know it is done as the maker will beep and the light will turn green. Always read the waffle maker manual to ensure proper use. Open it up to see the masterpiece!
4. Remove and serve: Once the waffle is golden brown and crispy, carefully remove it and place it on a cooling rake or plate. Repeat with the remaining batter.
5. You can cut up the waffle into 4s or if you have a big appeite, you can have the whole thing. Place it on a plate and add your maple syrup. We get our amazing maple syrup from Innisfil Creek Honey. Enjoy!
Toppings Galore
Waffles are a blank canvas for a variety of toppings. Here are some ideas to inspire you:
Classic Maple Syrup:You can’t go wrong with a drizzle of pure maple syrup.
Fresh Fruits: Top your waffle with sliced strawberries, bananas, or a handful of blueberries.
Whipped Cream: Add a dollop of whipped cream for a touch of decadence.
Nut Butter: Spread almond butter or peanut butter for a protein-packed twist.
Savory Toppings: Try a fried egg, crispy bacon, or avocado slices for a savory take.
