I am a dad of 3 kids. I have 2 daughters, one is 10 and the other is 18, and I also have a 7-year-old son. I hope gender equality starts being taken serious in the world and here’s why…
For my girls.
All I want for my daughters is for them, work wise, is to find something they love doing. I don’t care what they choose, whether it’s a lawyer, teacher or of they follow dad and get into construction. What I do want is for them to be treated equal in the work force.
I want them to be paid the same for the work they do, and to not have to deal with the sexist bullshit that some work places still have going in them. I have seen lots of it happening through all the jobs I have held and hope my girls never have to deal with it themselves.
There is a least a big push for this to change and I hope it comes soon. My oldest daughter is well on her way to getting her degree in university and starting a career. She wants to be a lawyer and when she reaches her goal I hope she gets treated equal to any man in the office.
There is still a lot of work to be done when it come to the way women are treated in the work force, and not a lot of time before my girls are a part of it. I hope things change and my girls never have to deal with the crap that is still going on today.
For my son.
For my son I hope that by the time he is a dad, the way men are perceived as a parent is finally changed. I hope he is seen as an equal when it comes to parenting as well as in the home.
When it comes to parenting, every thing is geared towards moms, from baby stuff to cooking and cleaning. My son is already like me, where he cooks, bakes and helps out with everything around the house. He does this at 7 years old and has known no different. He sees the way dad acts and follows suit.
I hope he doesn’t come across the same problems I have had where people harass him for being a family man. I have been told I’m whipped, gay, a liar, and so much more just for saying I am going home to be with my wife and kids. Not just from men either, but also women. The worst part for me is when women who fight to be treated equal at work are the same ones who treat me different because I’m a dad who loves his kids and want to be home to be with them.
I know my son will be a great dad if he chooses to start a family and I hope by that time men are shown to be an equal part in raising kids.
In my house everyone is equal, we all cook, clean, look after each other, do yard work, fix thing etc without it being moms job or dads – boys or girls. All my kids have learnt from day one is we all take part in everything around the house, that hard work gets rewarded and we are all treated the same. I hope for my kids that society finally catches up to how our house is run. Women are equal to men, and men are equal to women in all aspects of life. Our society would be much better off if there was no such thing as sexism.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I would love to hear both sides and experiences so I can share with my kids.
